The Ford Fusion is a midsize sedan that Ford sold from the 2006 through 2020 model years. It spanned two model generations, with gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants. It debuted with a look that was heavily influenced by Mazda designs. In 2006, Strategic Vision named the Ford Fusion as the best-quality midsize sedan in the American market. And in 2009, Motor Trend selected the 2010 Ford Fusion lineup as the Car of the Year. Annual sales of the Fusion in the US ranged from 100,000 to 300,000, peaking in 2014 with over 306,000 units sold.

For the last release of the Fusion, the 2020 Ford Fusion came in its usual variants of gas-powered, hybrid, and PHEV. Front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations were offered for the gas model, whereas the hybrid and the plug-in were exclusively FWD. You could choose from four standard trim levels with the gas model. These included the S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The standard Fusion’s powertrain was a 2.5-liter I4 engine that produced 175 hp and 175 pound-feet of torque. Both regular and plug-in hybrid Fusion models came with a 2.0-liter I4 paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 188 hp.

Why Did Ford Discontinue the Ford Fusion?

Despite its success, Ford discontinued the Fusion in 2020 with its focus shifting to EVs, crossovers, SUVs, trucks. The Fusion joined other sedan models that ceased production, which included the Ford Fiesta and the Taurus.
