Known as Ford’s first midsize pickup truck, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac was introduced in early 2000. It’s essentially a Ford Explorer SUV with a pickup truck’s bed, combining the utility of Ford’s trucks and the comforts of a modern SUV. Also referred to simply as the Sport Trac, this truck was marketed by Ford from the 2001 through 2010 model years. Despite leaving Ford’s regular lineup, its relative success ultimately led Ford to producing the fourth-generation Ford Ranger as a midsize pickup truck.

Exiting for the 2010 model year, the 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac was available in two trim options: XLT and Limited. Each model came with a unique powertrain, with the base XLT sporting a V6 and the high-end Limited getting a V8 as optional. The V6 was paired with a five-speed automatic transmission (A/T) while the V8 had a six-speed A/T. Unlike most pickup trucks, the Sport Trac was equipped with an independent rear suspension, providing superior steering response and handling similar to what you might expect from an Explorer SUV. The Sport Trac’s interior was also identical to that of the Ford Explorer.
