The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV that Ford has sold since the 2001 model year. It was initially developed together with Mazda. This joint production led to the release of the Mazda Tribute and the Mercury Mariner. For the 2004 model year, Ford released a hybrid variant of the Escape, becoming the first Ford hybrid vehicle. In Europe, the Escape is sold as the Ford Kuga and was marketed under the Ford Maverick nameplate from 2001 to 2008.

The first two generations of the Escape saw Ford sharing the CD2 platform with Mazda. For first-generation models, four engines were offered throughout the initial run. These included the 3.0-liter Duratec 30 V6 engine and Ford’s 2.5-liter Atkinson cycle I4 hybrid engine. For max power, the 3.0-liter V6 was best, producing 200 hp and 193 pound-feet of torque. The hybrid option wasn’t bad at 155 hp and it improved fuel economy by 40% with 27 mpg combined.

The 2024 Ford Escape is a fourth-generation model and includes improvements from the 2023 refresh. It is offered in eight total variants, which includes three FWD options and five for AWD. AWD models start with the Active trim, costing $33,160. The Platinum is the highest trim, but the ST-Line Elite is the priciest, costing $41,105. Both high trims come with the standard 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain and 2.0-liter EcoBoost with auto-startup technology.
